Two general categories of studies using IMPLAN have emerged over the years. The larger of these categories includes Impact Analysis studies that examine the economic impacts of events like the opening of a new amusement park.
These studies address the general question: What are the marginal impacts of the project? The second category, smaller but increasingly more common, concerns the role, importance, or contribution of a project. Contribution Analysis addresses the general question: What is the contribution of the project to the overall economy of the area?
